Despite the Houston heat and humidity (does anyone EVER get used to it?!) yesterday was so much fun. I’m so happy my youngest and his best friend both have an affinity for photography. As they say, “Teach your kids to love photography and they’ll never have enough money to buy drugs.”
We headed out early to try and beat both the heat and the crowd at the infamous Sugar and Cloth Color Wall near downtown. We were lucky–only a handful of people were there. But it was hot… Houston hot. We still managed to have fun and fire of a few shots. It’s so much fun seeing these young, soon-to-be men get creative and to see how THEY view the world. Proud mom moment (insert a tear and some nostalgia here).
We needed a serious air-conditioning break so we headed over to the graffiti wall just opposite Baldwin Park. This has always been one of my favorite places to photograph families and teenagers. Families love the park (gigantic, 100+ year-old trees, lots of shade and a playground). Teens love the edgy look of the graffiti wall. But don’t get attached to the images there… quite often they are replaced by new artists’s work. It keeps it fun and fresh AND it’s always a lovely surprise to see what’s new each time you visit.
